Robert J. Meisner, 98, died at his home at Brookdale Lake Shore Drive in Chicago Aug. 16, 2024, after a short illness and a long, successful life.
He and his late wife Betty (Mary E. Casey) were married for 63 years. They were residents of Hinsdale for 33 years and raised six children at their Bodin Street home during that time. Mr. Meisner enjoyed a long career as a product engineer and executive at Kraft Foods.
He was an active member of the Hinsdale community and St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, where his children attended elementary school. He also coached Little League and Pony Leagues baseball teams in the town, where his sons played throughout their school years.
As a young married couple, the Meisners moved their family to Hinsdale when their first children were quite young because they admired its beautiful homes, excellent schools and easy access to the city of Chicago.
Later in life, after their children were grown, the couple moved to The Woodlands of Darien, where they lived for another 25 years.
Mr. Meisner was born in Chicago in 1926. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, where he was a member of the 499th Bombardment Group of the 20th Air Force and was a gunner on the B29 bomber flights to Tokyo in the final stages of the war.
Mr. Meisner is survived by his children, Michael (Patsy) Meisner, Mary Jo Meisner, Susan VanKoughnett and Maureen (Doug) Seaman; his seven grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Guerra; and his brother-in-law, Patrick J. Casey SJ.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas G. Meisner and Robert W. Meisner.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 W. Fourth St., Hinsdale.
Burial is private at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
