Meeting roundup

Hinsdale Village Board

Among other business Aug. 13, trustees:

• took action on several measures related to the construction of a new plaza on the south side of the Memorial Building. Trustees approved the exterior appearance plan and site plan for the project, approved an intergovernmental agreement with Hinsdale Public Library and awarded a construction contract to Apex Landscaping Inc. for $318,835.40 to construct it. Work was expected to begin this week.

• enacted an ordinance requiring the lease term on short-term rental homes to be a minimum of 90 days. The step was taken after residents had complained about the adverse impact Airbnb-like rental arrangements were having on their neighborhoods in terms of noise, trash and other nuisances.

• approved the installation of two additional paddle tennis courts at Katherine Legge Memorial Park. The courts, which will be located just west of the existing courts in the southeast corner of the park, will be constructed and managed by the Hinsdale Paddle Tennis Association through an agreement with the village.

• agreed to hire Baxter and Woodman Consulting Engineers to conduct a study of the village’s water system for $47,300. The study will focused on reducing the 20 percent of water loss that officials say is purchased from the DuPage Water Commission but not billed by the village due to system leakage, inaccurate water meters, irrigation, fire department use and other factors.

• approved the purchase of a 2025 Peterbilt Model 548 truck for $260,697.63, which will be used by the public works department for snow and ice removal in the winter and dry material hauling in the summer

• approved a contract with HGA for $50,000 to create a space utilization plan for the Memorial Building, including an assessment of the building’s mechanical systems. With HCS Family Services vacating the building later this month, officials stated this was a good time to conduct such an evaluation.

• hired McFarlane Douglass & Companies to put up the village’s lighting and decorating this holiday season for $39,690

• approved a change order for $42,891 for ceiling repairs associated with the gun range rehabilitation project at the police station
