Hinsdale Fire, Police hold open house

Hundreds of people attended the annual Hinsdale Fire & Police Open House Saturday afternoon. From a live fire demonstration to a non-lethal use of force demonstration the afternoon was filled with plenty of fun and important safety messages. Hinsdale police officer Kevin Berland, who is assigned to the SWAT component of MERIT (Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team), a countywide task force, demonstrates the use of a shotgun loaded with a non-lethal round to the crowd. Joey Giammanco tried on some of the gear brought by several agents of the Chicago FBI field office. James McMillan learned how to use a fire extinguisher and Hinsdale firefighters show how it's really done during the live fire demonstration. (Jim Slonoff photos)
