Meeting roundup

Hinsdale High School District 86

Among other business Oct. 24, board members:

• removed from the consent agenda a $131,770.97 bill for legal services from law firm Robbins Schwartz. Several board members expressed dismay at the large amount, and the board directed administrators to review the accuracy of billed items within their departments prior to board approval of the payment. Robbins Schwartz no longer represents the board, which is in the process of hiring a new law firm.

• learned that the district received nine proposals in response to a request for qualifications to serve as the board’s legal representation. Officials will evaluate each of the submission and narrow the list down to determine which firms will advance in the selection process. A special board meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12, to discuss the matter.

• approved an estimate of $116.6 million for the property taxes to be levied for 2024. The estimate, a required step before adoption of a final levy, represents a 3.56 percent increase over the 2023 property tax extension, less than the 5 percent threshold that would necessitate a public hearing. The final levy is expected to be approved at the Dec. 12 regular action meeting.

• heard a presentation on the proposed program of studies for the 2025-26 school year. Recommended changes include adding the newly approved AP Precalculus into the course offerings, offering early bird physical education to freshmen and sophomores and moving American Sign Language to the world language course section.
