Oksana Marchuk

Oksana Marchuk of Hinsdale passed away peacefully Dec. 15, 2024, with her family by her side.

Oksana, nee Holian, 88, was born in 1936 in Nemiriw, Ukraine, where she lived until World War II forced her family to relocate to Mittenwald, Germany.

In 1944, her family immigrated to the United States, ultimately settling in Archbold, Ohio. She graduated from Archibold High School in 1954 and attended Kent State University. At a social event in Cleveland she met the love of her life and future husband, Basil Marchuk. They settled in Hinsdale to raise their family.

Oksana enjoyed raising her four children, playing bridge (achieving life master) and tennis at Salt Creek Club, and traveling. She was an accomplished cook, admired for her dinner parties, and was a dedicated employee at Marshall Field's/Macy's for more than 30 years. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren.

Oksana was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Basil Marchuk; and her son, Daniel.

She is survived by her daughters, Lydia Marchuk, Martha (Michael) Charysh, and Mary (John) Worthington; her daughter-in-law, Rose Marchuk; her grandchildren, Lesia (Thomas) Wolf and Michael Charysh, Elizabeth (Thomas) Sobczak, Andrew (Emily) Worthington and Kristen Worthington, and Jennifer, Megan and Stephanie Marchuk; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago.

A funeral service will follow at noon at Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 835 N. Oakley Blvd., Chicago.
