Una Mae Herzog, 95, of Clarendon Hills passed away Dec. 28, 2024.
Una was born in 1929, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Alfred and Una (Baxter) Booth. She graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria in 1947.
She married Edward E. Herzog on March 12, 1949, in Peoria. They were married for 63 years before his passing in 2012 in Peoria.
Together they lived in Peoria for 15 years raising their family prior to moving to the Chicago area for the next 20 years. They then retired in 1986 to a lake home in Oak Run near Galesburg, where Una and her family enjoyed many Fourth of July celebrations throughout the years. She spent the last 10 years of her life living in Clarendon Hills, near her family.
Una worked many secretarial and bookkeeping jobs over the years, but her passion and gift was using her hands to create things. She loved to sew, knit, build and craft, and could fix anything. She loved reading and music and always enjoyed singing, especially with The Belles of Harmony group in Peoria. She was kind and gentle and always had a way of surprising people with her subtle sense of humor. She never raised her voice or said an unkind word to anyone. Every person who met her was amazed by her sweet nature.
Una loved being with and taking care of her family more than anything. She had a way of always putting everyone else first. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be so greatly missed.
Una is survived by her three children, Susan, Mark and Lori; her daughter-in-law, Kim (Rosselle); her two brothers, Eddie and Montie (Jackie) Booth; her nine grandchildren, Greg, Adam, Lindsey (Larry), Christopher, Sydney, Gabrielle, Gillian, Isabelle and Dylan; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Swan Lake Memory Gardens, 4601 W. War Memorial Drive, Peoria.
Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
